Higgins Lake Foundation Receives RCCF Grant to Assist with Cost of Greenbelt and Seawall Removal Educational Program

The Higgins Lake Foundation recently received a grant from the Endowment for Higgins Lake, an Endowment Fund of the Roscommon County Community Foundation, in the amount of $500.00 to help pay for the cost of printing, copies and postage related to the Greenbelt and Seawall Removal educational project. Over time the negative effects of sea walls on the health of a lake have been realized. A body of water rids itself of weeds, bacteria and debris by depositing these unhealthy elements on the shoreline as waves ebb and flow. A seawall eliminates this cleansing process by deflecting everything back into the lake. This program is designed to stress the importance of shoreline care that will help protect the lake for future generations.
