Higgins Lake Foundation Receives RCCF Grant to Assist with Cost of Maintaining the Suction Harvester Equipment

The John Morley Family Endowment Fund, and the Robert R. Thalner Fund, both Endowment Funds of the Roscommon County Community Foundation, recently provided grants to the Higgins Lake Foundation totaling $2,230.00 to help pay for the cost of maintenance on the Suction Harvester Equipment. The John Morley Fund awarded $1,201.00 and the Robert Thalner Fund awarded $1,029.00 toward the grant.

The suction harvester system allows trained volunteers to access all problem areas on Higgins Lake to remove the invasive Eurasion water milfoil weed. This system is designed to remove the weed by the roots without the use of chemicals. The weeds are then vacuumed into bags where they can be disposed of in a compost site on land.
