The Roscommon County Community Foundation (RRCF) has been an important partner with Huron Pines for the last several years, helping to preserve the water quality of Higgins Lake. RCCF was an early supporter in the development of a watershed management plan for the lake, committing funds that Huron Pines was able to leverage to bring support from outside the region. This led to the completion of a detailed action plan for protecting water quality and helped to better organize efforts and use project funding, labor, and time efficiently. Our organization has also had support from RCCF for several water quality outreach and education projects and the effort to manage the invasive plant Eurasian watermilfoil. Most recently, RCCF has committed to sponsoring the publication of a watershed plan summary that will be distributed throughout the community in the fall of 2007.
Huron Pines is a not-for-profit organization that conserves the forests, lakes and streams of Northeast Michigan. The organization fulfills this role by coordinating hands-on conservation projects and bringing together partners from the public and private sector. Our close relationships with groups like Community Foundation help make this mission a reality. More information on other projects is available huronpines.org.
